A Welcoming Guest Room Retreat
The holidays are quickly approaching. And, that means guests will be coming and going. Now is a good time to start thinking about your guest room and the experience you want your friends and family to have.
The Kitchen
The Kitchen tends to be the gathering place for people, but after a long day of travel, no one wants to cook a meal. A thoughtful idea is to have your guests favorite snacks and drinks on hand for when they arrive. Before they even travel, ask for a list of things like to eat or snack on.
Do they prefer coffee over tea? These small touches can make a big impact on your guests and ensuring they feel welcome in your home. A nice touch is to have a basket in their room with a few of their favorite treats. I mean, who doesn't love some chocolates waiting for them?
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate.
The stress of the holidays can leave us run down and we can forget to take care of ourselves. Drinking enough water is crucial this time of year. A simple way to help keep your guests (and yourself) hydrate is stocking the fridge with water bottles. This way your guests can just grab one and go. Maybe even keep a few in their bedroom for when that late night thirst hits.
Bathroom Essentials.
I dont know about you, but I am notorious for leaving my toothbrush behind. How? I really don't know. But save your guests the awkward ask by providing some extra bathroom essentials that people can sometimes forget. It can feel more at home with a bathroom basket stocked with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and lotion. The list is really endless of things you can add. All these tiny details really do make for a pleasant and welcoming stay.
Catching Some ZZZ’s
A quality night's rest can be crucial for a happy guest. I mean, no one wants a sleep-deprived family member. Creating a cozy bed with lots of comforts can do the trick! Consider what might help your guest feel at home. Soft blankets, comfortable pillows, maybe even a fan for air circulation and white noise.
Don’t Forget To Check Your Blinds
There are a number of ways the window coverings can create comfort and safety when guests stay with you. Ask yourself: Do your window coverings block out the morning sun? Traveling can be exhausting, especially when you cross timezones. It's helpful to keep morning light out so they can get as much rest as possible. Window coverings can also be a great comfort. When in an unfamiliar place, it's nice to have access to privacy. And, as a friendly reminder: If you have small children staying, make sure cords are 8 inches or less so they stay out of reach from tiny people.
The Chill Zone.
Having friends and family come stay is so fun. They love to see your day to day life and tag along with you. But everyone needs down–time, just to decompress and be quiet. A nice touch is to create a space in your house where your guest can go to do just that. Maybe a comfy chair with a knit blanket. Add a side table and lamp for guests who like to read. These tiny touches will really set your home apart and make your guests feel at ease.
Don't Forget About The Kiddos.
Traveling with kids can be stressful. Everyone is out of their routine, and sometimes new places can be intimidating to tiny humans. Try and ease the kids' (and parents') stress by having activities planned or even have some kid friendly items for them to play with. (Think play-doh, puzzles, coloring books and crayons).
Now is not the time to break out great-grandmas beloved china. Put breakable things away or keep them out of reach of small hands. Kids really do bring the magic during the holidays. Embrace the chaos.
